sometimes parenting can make you feel just a little crazy

looking back through the years

As I enter 2017, refreshed and full of new hopes for the coming year, I reflect upon my life as it is now and compare to what it was like just a couple of decades ago.  Am I happier?  Am I wiser?  Am I more fulfilled?  Who knows.  All I know is that I look back and laugh and laugh and laugh...and laugh...cry a little and then laugh some more.

Here's a review of my life, then versus now.

Heartthrobs

Then:  Tom Cruise
Now:  Mr. Clean Magic Eraser (he rocks my world)

Favorite Electronics

Then:  Crimping Iron and Sony Walkman
Now:  Dyson Vacuum

Sleepovers

Then:  Stay awake all night eating chocolate and potato chips while watching Tom Cruise movies and playing MASH
Now:  Stay awake all night because I had a cup of coffee at 3 pm, otherwise I just want to sleep, please let me sleep, I have to pee, but then, dear God, let me fall asleep

Books

Then:  Sweet Valley High, R.L.Stine, Choose Your Own Adventure
Now:  Bernstein Bears and my life is already part horror-part adventure story

Favorite Snacks

Then: York Peppermint Patties, Peanut M&M's and Cheetos, the crunchy kind. Lots of Pepsi.
Now:  Fiber. Lots of Pepcid.

Fashion

Then: Anything "poofed," "to the side" and/or "scrunched"
Now: I wake up with poofy, scrunched hair and a bunch of things already hanging to the side

Life was simpler back then, yet somehow more ridiculous (despite low-hanging boobage),  than the life I lead now.

Who knew.

Probably my mother.
